A user called Leash on twitters

As spoken about in our section meeting here is what I read to you provided by my sister...

twitter is a social network i guess used to keep up to date with what your friends are doing - so whereas in the past you would sms all your friends and say "hey party at mine saturday are u coming" and it would cost per sms u sent, u know just twitter it and wait for the responses. As none of my friends are actually on twitter I can't use it for this although I'm waiting and looking forward to the day that it starts to take over like facebook did. You have to keep your messages to 140 characters which can be challenging sometimes but fun. The good thing is you can link your entry to a blog page or a twitter photo page or qwik video page.

I have instant access to it via my phone and internet so wherever I am i can read twitters and post them. I have added informative and interesting people both nationally and internationally. I now find that I don’t need to watch the news or go to news.com because the twitter community tell me what is going on before the media get the info.

Examples:

The night melbourne had massive blackouts all over the city, I was sitting on Jason's balcony and read it and saw all the updates and this was exactly the same with the bushfires. I knew about them from people involved that were twittering on their mobiles before the media was across it.

The whole Ashton Kutcher thing, where the media/tabloids did a majore beat up of him yelling at his neighbours etc. He is one of my twitter friends so I knew it was a complete beat up and Ashton and Demi were actually posting wat was really happening including photos and videos.

I think as consumers and people in general become more aware of what is going on around them and stop believing the sensationalised stories from the media they look to networks like twitter as it delivers the real story.

I laugh now because about two days after something has happened (like John Mayer made some stupid joke comment - he is also in my network) Angela Bishop was reporting it as an exclusive on channel ten news. It really makes these news stories redundant as the news is now bneing told by the people that are involved in it and of course they tell u wat really happened rather than the media making it up.

Another example is Michael Phelps. He was discussing the whole bong thing on twitter before it became full scale news

Bands that have twitter pages like the grates, keep u informed of whats going on at a gig including photos and backstage gossip etc

I didnt need to watch the Grammy's the other night as I am networked to a rap artist who was sitting in the crowd and a makeup artist who was there. They gave updates including extra tidbits!

I have now noticed more and more that the media are quoting "twitter this twitter that" and they also do this with facebook. I actually feel journalists are rather lazy these days as all they need to do is look at someones twitter log or facebook and the work is done for them.

I am subscribed to Kevin Rudd Borack Obama, social media experts, normal day to day people, celebrities, bands etc and if you select a great group of twitters to follow you will stay informed and have your finger on the pulse.
